Unfortunately, an increasing number of reports indicate that mental health issues among university and college students are on the rise. Mental health problems, such as symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress, are more common among students than among working professionals in the same age group and, according to several studies, even compared to the general population.

A report from the Public Health Agency of Sweden from 2018 concludes that “efforts to promote public health should be conducted at the individual and group level as well as at the organizational and structural level, and universities and colleges can promote students' mental health and prevent mental illness by creating and evaluating supportive physical, social, and academic environments.”

What is the School of Naprapathy doing about this?

SUN

SUN - Sustainable UNiversity life
The purpose of the SUN study, conducted by Sophiahemmet University and Karolinska Institutet in an international collaboration, is primarily to identify modifiable risk factors for the development of mental illness and pain among students.
The study will hopefully also shed light on which factors are important for promoting health and recovery. The School of Naprapathy is one of the educational institutions offering its students the opportunity to participate in the study. In this way, we can “together find out what is important for sustainable health during your time as a student”!
The scientific lead for the study is Professor and licensed naprapath Eva Skillgate, and the project manager is Associate Professor Klara Edlund.

MINDLER - Online visits with a licensed psychologist
The School of Naprapathy already has an agreement with the Student Health Service in Stockholm, where both a licensed nurse and a licensed psychologist are available free of charge to all enrolled students.
Judging by the statistics, this resource is being used less and less, and we at the college believe there are students who are clearly not seeking help despite struggling. We believe this is a matter of accessibility! Therefore, today in the college's Education Board, our forum for formal educational issues and student influence, we decided to initiate a partnership with Mindler, where enrolled students are offered free access to their online therapy services.

So, in response to the question above, we can inform you that our students are participating in the world's largest study on what affects student mental health. Furthermore, we are investing resources in a new partnership agreement to increase access to care for students experiencing mental health issues.
