On February 27th, we had the pleasure of welcoming over 80 visitors to our open house at the School of Naprapathy. Guests from both Sweden and Norway gathered to learn more about naprapathy and our degree program. The event included an information session and Q&A in the college auditorium, followed by a tour and treatment demonstrations by our students. College President Helène Schulte welcomed everyone and opened the event with a presentation about the school.
Today, we have approximately 350 students from across the Nordic region enrolled in our four-year naprapathy program, making us the largest institution for advanced manual medicine in the Nordic countries. The college was founded in Stockholm in 1970, and the fiftieth class since the school's inception was enrolled in the autumn of 2015. Read more about the college under the heading About us.
Naprapathy was founded in the United States around the turn of the last century and originally had close ties to other manual therapies such as chiropractic and osteopathy. The word "naprapath" is a combination of the Czech word "napravit," meaning to correct, and the Greek "pathos," meaning suffering, thus translating to "to correct the cause of suffering." The definition of naprapathy is "A system for the specific examination, diagnosis, manual treatment, and rehabilitation of pain and dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system."

Naprapaths are a licensed professional group with a protected professional title. This means that they are governed by the Health and Medical Services Act and provide examinations, diagnoses, and treatments based on science and proven experience. It also means that only those who hold a naprapath degree and have completed their clinical internship are entitled to call themselves naprapaths.
The Naprapath Program is a four-year specialist education in manual medicine. The program provides you with a broad foundation of medical knowledge with a specialization in naprapathy. Our pedagogical profile is based on the integration of theoretical, practical, and clinical instruction throughout the entire program. The program is eligible for student financial aid for students from across the Nordic region. New rules for student aid from CSN. On July 1, 2015, the rules for the additional loan for tuition fees were changed, making it possible to borrow more. At the post-secondary level, the maximum amount is approximately 340,000 SEK for the total duration of studies. Read more here on the website under the heading Eligibility and selection.
After the presentation in the auditorium, there was a tour of the college's facilities. The open house concluded with some of our students demonstrating techniques for the examination and treatment of acute lower back pain. You can find a video of the presentation at the top of this page.
