Starting in the autumn semester of 2026, NIMM will become the sole provider of all chiropractic education in Sweden. Students from SKHS will be offered the opportunity to have their courses validated and credited for continued studies at NIMM. The goal is to ensure continuity for students, leverage established expertise, and strengthen the long-term development of chiropractic education in Sweden.

A structured process is now underway to create the best possible conditions for SKHS students to continue their studies at NIMM. This work is guided by the principles of student security, educational quality, and the long-term development of the profession.

For the students, the starting point is that the transition should be carried out with clear information, individually tailored support, and as much continuity in their studies as possible. The transition to NIMM will not result in a longer total study period or increased educational costs for the students. Practical matters regarding curricula, validation, teaching methods, clinical components, and administration will be handled by dedicated joint working groups.

SKHS faculty and administrative staff are now working intensively to facilitate the students' transition to NIMM. The parties will also continue their dialogue on how to best utilize SKHS’s chiropractic expertise, teaching competence, research connections, and professional integration in the continued development of NIMM. A key shared premise is that chiropractic education will continue to be shaped with clear influence from the chiropractic profession.‍

Comment from SKHS:
"For decades, SKHS has worked for the establishment of chiropractic and chiropractors in Sweden. For twenty-five years, the college has been under the supervision of the Swedish Higher Education Authority and has provided a basis for professional licensure. Although the contribution of SKHS to Swedish chiropractic has been of decisive importance for the profession's growing establishment within the Swedish healthcare system, we believe that continued academicization is best served by bringing professions within manual medicine under the same roof."

Comment from NIMM:
"For NIMM, this is an important step in our work to strengthen education within manual medicine. Our ambition is to create a robust educational environment where naprapathy, chiropractic, and osteopathy can develop side by side, with respect for each profession's identity and specific professional competence."

This decision should be viewed in the context of the broader development within the manual medicine sector. Requirements for scientific grounding, quality assurance, patient safety, clinical competence, and collaboration with the rest of the healthcare system are increasing. From this perspective, SKHS and NIMM believe that a unified and long-term sustainable educational environment can create better conditions for both students and the profession.

SKHS has long played a central role in Swedish chiropractic education and has built up significant experience, competence, and professional standing. Through this transition, the parties' shared ambition is for this knowledge to be carried forward and contribute to the development of chiropractic education within NIMM's broader educational environment for manual medicine.

NIMM currently provides education in naprapathy and chiropractic, and from the autumn semester of 2026, will also include osteopathy. The institution is in a strategic development phase with a focus on academic quality, international validation, and degree-awarding powers. The transition is in line with NIMM's ambition to gather and strengthen education in manual medicine within a larger, more robust, and practice-oriented academic environment.

Work will now focus on the practical and administrative educational issues required to carry out an orderly transition in a secure and controlled manner. More information will be provided to students, staff, and other stakeholders as the work progresses.
