Due to Covid-19, the need for healthcare personnel has increased enormously. The healthcare system is continuously working to adapt its operations and increase capacity to handle the large surge in patient flow.
With this in mind, I contacted the hospital management at Danderyd Hospital a couple of weeks ago, where I previously served as a physician in anesthesia and intensive care. One of the many adjustments within healthcare is to utilize students and professionals, other than nursing assistants and nurses, who already possess knowledge in medicine and/or nursing.
My question was therefore: “Can students from the School of Naprapathy, who have strong skills in medicine and patient-centered work, assist the healthcare system during a crisis the likes of which we have not seen in modern times?” The question was received very positively, and the initiative was appreciated.
Negotiations have led us to proudly state today that nearly 80 students from the School of Naprapathy, from semesters 3-8, will undergo training next week to become assistant nursing aides at Clinicum, Danderyd Hospital. The role involves patient-centered care and will take place at Danderyd Hospital and, if necessary, at the new field hospital in Älvsjö.
The service will be partially credited toward the existing study plan, Clinical Placement (VFU) - External Internship.
