Naprapaths behind leading research in sports medicine. Martin Asker, licensed naprapath, doctoral student at Karolinska Institutet, and instructor at the School of Naprapathy, publishes a high-quality study in one of the world's top-ranked sports medicine journals – the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
The article was published recently “Risk factors for, and prevention of, shoulder injuries in overhead sports: a systematic review with best-evidence synthesis” in the highly ranked scientific journal British Journal of Sports Medicine.
The article is a systematic review aimed at investigating risk factors and preventive measures for shoulder injuries in overhead athletes, such as handball players, tennis players, and volleyball players.
In summary, the findings indicate that the evidence for risk factors for shoulder injuries in overhead athletes is limited, and most studies have examined non-modifiable factors. Furthermore, there are indications that injury prevention training for the shoulder in handball players is effective.
The study was conducted by naprapaths Martin Asker, Eva Skillgate, Fredrik Johansson, and Ulrika Tranaeus, all of whom are affiliated with Karolinska Institutet and are instructors at the School of Naprapathy. The other authors are Hannah Brooks (Karolinska Institutet), Lena Holm (Karolinska Institutet), and Markus Waldén (Linköping University).
It is particularly exciting that the article is of such high quality and interest that it has been named “Editor's choice”. As a result, the article is also “open access” and free for everyone to read and download. You can find the full study here: https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/52/20/1312
