The Karolinska Football Injury Cohort (KIC) research project is turning one! KIC is being conducted to identify risk factors for injuries in young female football players, and 140 players have been included so far. The goal is for 600 players to participate, making the study one of the largest of its kind.
KIC is conducted at Karolinska Institutet in collaboration with the School of Naprapathy. The implementation of KIC is entirely dependent on the significant efforts of a number of students at the School of Naprapathy, led by Victor Lyberg, Martin Samuelsson, and Nathan Weiss. Other students participating in KIC include Edvin Ambrus, Anton Ruthberg, Vibeke Greverud, Joanna Uggla, Henrik Yttervik, Markus Nilsson, Dan Lindoff, Daniel Wesslund, Alexander Carlgren, Sirin Tiftikci, David Björkman, Filip Malmgren, Hanna Magnusson, Simon Millak, Truls Omsland, Eirik Pedersen, Victor Kristiansen, Joakim Bogren, and others.
There is great interest in the study among players, clubs, and researchers in the field. During the spring, the study's design and implementation were presented by project manager Associate Professor Eva Skillgate at several major sports medicine congresses, including the Swedish Football Association's congress in Stockholm and FIFA's international congress, The Future of Football Medicine, at Camp Nou in Barcelona.
If you would like to know more about the study, please contact Victor Lyberg in DN48 (Victor.Lyberg@ki.se) or Eva Skillgate (Eva.Skillgate@ki.se)
