Pre-congress & workshops at the School of Naprapathy

FoMM kicked off on Thursday with pre-congress workshops at the School of Naprapathy, where college faculty members and licensed naprapaths Mia Thuresson and Mimmi Linder held a practical workshop on "Modern Joint Manipulation." Invited speakers Tim Beames and Wim Dankaerts also began discussions on the theme of manual-cognitive therapy.

Thursday's discussions were followed up on Friday with interesting presentations by Beames and Dankaerts, and licensed naprapath Annett Selheden spoke on how to be a manual therapist while utilizing modern cognitive tools. Overall, Friday offered many interesting perspectives for naprapaths, highlighting the importance of the interaction and communication between therapist and patient. Much of it is about reducing the patient's anxiety that "something is wrong with their body." Additionally, Associate Professor Eva Skillgate and her research colleagues Martin Asker, Titti Lilje, and Fredrik Johansson provided an update on the current state of research within the MUSIC group at Karolinska Institutet—a well-received segment, as many of the projects involve students from the School of Naprapathy. Friday concluded with an inspirational lecture by "SaraClaes" on the norms, programming, and values that govern our lives and prevent us from thinking logically. Very entertaining and thought-provoking! In the evening, a festive banquet was held, which was highlighted by Victor Lyberg, a student at the School of Naprapathy, being awarded the 2018 Robert Möller Sports Medicine Scholarship. Congratulations, great work!
Saturday's convention began with productive group discussions, where it emerged, among other things, that members are interested in "advanced courses" from the School of Naprapathy. It is exciting to note that we will be focusing on exactly this for the 2018 autumn semester, as Jonas Gustrin has been hired to lead this project.
On Saturday, the School of Naprapathy also gave a brief presentation focusing on the following:

• joint strategic issues concerning education & the association
• "manual-cognitive therapy" from an educational perspective
• the outcome of the neck manipulation course
• investments and results in clinical naprapathy

In summary, it was a very rewarding FoMM, and we at the School of Naprapathy can conclude that we are providing an education that aligns with what was presented at the congress—namely, that we can strengthen the professional profile of naprapathy with new knowledge, such as manual-cognitive therapy.
