The Public Health Agency of Sweden has recently published new recommendations regarding the use of face masks in healthcare.
The recommendations are based on a new literature review of articles published after April 2020. The literature search found weak scientific evidence that face masks are effective as source control for COVID-19. There are no studies on the effectiveness of face shields as source control for COVID-19 or other respiratory infections. Similar assessments have been made by the US CDC and Public Health Ontario, Canada.
In light of the increased spread of infection in the community in Stockholm County and the occurrence of outbreaks in various types of healthcare facilities, the Regional Medical Officer for Communicable Disease Control finds reason to expand the current recommendations for all personnel working in healthcare, municipal care and nursing, and dental care.
The School of Naprapathy decided to introduce the use of face masks during practical and clinical training on 2020-09-30. This serves as a supplement in certain teaching situations where it is difficult or impossible to maintain physical distance. Primarily, the rules regarding "STAY HOME AT THE SLIGHTEST SYMPTOM", PHYSICAL DISTANCING, and GOOD HAND HYGIENE still apply.
