A new chapter has been written in the history of Swedish chiropractic. At the weekend's autumn conference, the members of both Legitimerade Kiropraktorers Riksorganisation (LKR) and Kiropraktiska Föreningen i Sverige (KFS) voted unanimously to dissolve their organisations and form a joint association: Kiropraktorförbundet (K), in English the Swedish Chiropractors Association.
The decisions were made at the associations' final annual meetings and mark a historic change for the chiropractic profession in Sweden.
The autumn conference also featured several lectures focusing on patient encounters and current research. Licensed chiropractor and associate professor Per Palmgren lectured on “Pedagogical encounters: the patient's learning”.
Cecilia Leijding, licensed chiropractor and PhD, presented her doctoral thesis Mechanisms of Skeletal Muscle Dysfunction in Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies.
Fredrik Borg, licensed chiropractor and doctoral student at Karolinska Institutet, presented his ongoing research project Biomechanical, Clinical, and Patient-Reported Outcomes of Spinal Manipulation, Exercise Therapy, and Open-Label Placebo in Chronic Back Pain.
The presentations were greatly appreciated by the chiropractors in attendance and led to lively discussions. The questions covered a wide range, from broad reflections to in-depth scientific issues.
The conference thus became both a meeting place for knowledge exchange and scientific depth and the starting point for a new shared chapter in the history of Swedish chiropractic.
